Al Nixon

“Sunshine Mayor”

Al Nixon, known around town as the “Sunshine Mayor,” was born and raised in St. Petersburg. He graduated from Lakewood High School, attended St. Petersburg College, and earned his degree from the University of Florida.

After a few years living in Atlanta, Al returned to St. Pete in 2010—not just because it was home, but because he believed it was the best place to live.

He worked for the City of St. Petersburg in the Water Resources Department and is well known for his daily sunrise visits to the bay, where he greets people with a smile and words of encouragement.
