John Johnson

Associate Director, USF St. Petersburg Office of Research President, Learning Empowered Board of Directors

Johnson is the President of the Learning Empowered Board of Directors and a seasoned higher education professional with a career spanning more than 25 years. Before his position as Associate Director at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg Office of Research, he spent over two decades in the New York University system.

A strong advocate for education at all levels, Johnson believes deeply in its power to transform lives. He emphasizes the importance of strengthening primary education and building more partnerships between local schools and universities, especially through mentoring and community engagement.

Johnson and his husband relocated to St. Petersburg in 2012 after spending years traveling back and forth and began a position at Eckerd College before transitioning to his current role at USFSP.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and remains committed to using education and collaboration as tools for community change.
